May 1933: The "Oral Surgery Conference" was founded.
April 1934: The society was renamed the "Oral Surgery Research Group," and the initial Constitution was enacted.
October 1934: The first issue of the first volume of the "Journal of Oral Surgery" was published.
April 1935: The society was renamed the "Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery."
December 1937: The seventh issue of the first volume of the Journal was published.
December 1939: Publication of the "Journal of Oral Surgery" was temporarily suspended because of the unstable political situation.
June 1949: A new Constitution of the Society was enacted. The Trustees and Directors were decided.
October 1954: The eighth issue of the first volume of the "Journal of Oral Surgery" was published (to commemorate republication).
July 1955: The journal was renamed the "Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery," and the first issue of the first volume was published.
October 1955: The Constitution was partially revised at an Extraordinary General Meeting.
November 1958: The office of the Society was moved to Tokyo Women's Medical University.
October 1966: The society was renamed the "Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons."
April 1967: The journal was renamed the "Journal of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons."
January 1973: The office of the Society was moved to Tokyo Medical University.
September 1973: The Society enacted a board-certification system for specialists.
March 1977: The office of the Society was moved to the Oral Health Association of Japan.
October 1977: The first training hospitals and instructor surgeons were designated according to the rules of the specialist board-certification system.
August 1980: The first board-certified specialists were designated according to the rules of the specialist board-certification system.
February 1981: The first education and training conference was held.
April 1982: The complete table of contents of the Journal of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (Volumes 1 to 25) was first published.
June 1985: The House Organ of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (first issue) was published.
October 1986: The Society established a sister alliance with the Korean Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
October 1991: The Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons was incorporated according to Article 34 of the Civil Code, with the approval of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology.
February 1992: Activities were started at the new office (Nakazato, Kita-ku, Tokyo).
October 1997: The 42nd General Assembly & Scientific Session was held together with the 13th General Meeting of the International Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (in Kyoto).
April 2000: A new office was purchased at 2 chome, Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Interior renovation was started.
June 2000: The House Organ of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons was renamed the Newsletter of the Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
July 2000: Activities were started at the new office.
October 2001: The Society's Academic Promotion Award and General Meeting Best Poster Award were established and presented.
October 2002: The board-certification system rules were revised to the specialist system rules.
October 2003: A ban on smoking was declared by the Society.
October 2003: The logo mark of the Society was designed.
October 2003: The 70th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony was held.
October 2003: The General Meeting Best Poster Award was renamed the Gold Ribbon Award.
November 2003: The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare approved advertisements by "oral and maxillofacial specialist surgeons."
October 2004: The 49th General Assembly & Scientific Session was held together with the 6th General Meeting of the Asian Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (in Chiba).
October 2005: A ceremony was held to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the sister alliance with the Korean Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
October 2005: New specialist system rules were established and enacted.
September 2007: The Society established a sister alliance with the Taiwan Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
September 2007: Scientific cooperation with the Philippine Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons was started.
April 2008: Application for certification under the new specialist system was started.
